Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about post-frame construction, permits, concrete, and building options in Ohio.
Do I need a building permit for a pole barn in Ohio?
In most Ohio counties and townships, agricultural buildings under a certain size may be exempt from residential building code permits, but still require zoning setback clearance. Residential garages, workshops, and commercial pole buildings generally require standard building permits. JT Pole Barns assists you with building specs and drawings required by your local county zoning board.
What posts do you use to prevent ground rot?
We set 3-ply pressure-treated laminated columns (or solid treated timbers) set deep into the ground on concrete footing pads below the Ohio frost line (minimum 36-48 inches). Laminated columns offer superior strength, stay straighter than solid posts, and carry long-term warranties against rot and insect decay.
How long does it take to erect a pole barn shell?
Once site excavation and post hole digging are complete, our experienced Amish framing team completes typical post-frame building shells on-site in just 2 to 5 working days depending on building size and weather.
Can I pour concrete after the building is framed?
Yes! Post-frame construction allows us to erect the posts, roof, and metal siding first, creating a dry, weather-protected shelter before pouring your concrete slab inside. This ensures a clean, controlled cure for your floor.
What metal siding and roofing steel do you install?
We install commercial-grade 29-gauge steel siding and roofing with a 40-year baked-on silicone polyester paint finish in over 20 color options. Standing seam metal roof options are also available.
